Talking About Politics

So much is happening around the world. Trump has got impeached. Brexit got a second round of votes so it is definitely happening. And India is headed towards becoming a majoritarian state instead of remaining a secular one.

There are deep political divides in every sphere of the world. Even families are divided when it comes to their views and ideologies. The problem stems from the fact that policies and politics is very convoluted. It is difficult to understand exactly what a particular law says so people end up forming their views based on unreliable sources. Public opinion is being shaped based on viral videos on social media, chat apps and even media houses. The signal is being hidden by the noise. The truth is becoming harder to see.

There is no right answer. It’s a mishmash of upbringings, feelings, insecurities and communities. If you hold a view it is best to do what Charlie Munger does – “know the views of opposition better than they do.” That way you can logically explain why you support a certain point of view and you can easily counter the backlash you will get because of it.
